This is an extended version of a piece published in The Critic this week on the failed judicial review of the decision of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to restrict the prescription of puberty blockers in the treatment of gender dysphoria in children. Here I go into some more detail to explain the legal framework that informed this judgment and offer some analysis on the point and purpose of judicial review.
